Foras Vertical Turbine Pumps – Agricultural Irrigation System near Aswan Dam, Egypt. High-Performance Water Pumping Solutions

Location: Egypt

Year: 2017

Application: The Aswan dam

In the heart of Egypt, adjacent to the iconic Aswan Dam, Foras delivered a turnkey pumping solution to support a large-scale agricultural irrigation project. The objective was to harness water from deep wells and efficiently deliver it to pivot irrigation systems, enabling sustainable farming in a demanding environment.

The Challenge

The challenge was to design and install a robust and energy-efficient water distribution system that could draw water from 30 deep wells—each 30 inches in diameter—and deliver consistent flow and pressure suitable for advanced agricultural irrigation across vast fields.

Our Solution: VP-Series by Foras

Foras supplied 32 vertical turbine pumps, tailored for different performance requirements, with a combined power of 4,000 kW. The system includes VP14 and VP22-400 series pumps—measuring 14” and 22” respectively—engineered to operate at depths of approximately 30 meters. These pumps are powered by 75 kW surface-mounted electric motors to facilitate easy maintenance.

Each hydraulic assembly features semi-axial designs with marine bronze impellers, delivering an impressive 280 m³/h flow at a pressure of 75 meters. The water is first collected in a centralized basin, then redistributed to pivot irrigation systems via high-efficiency “HV” series multistage pumps driven by 250 kW motors.
